When I Met A Lahori

Girl on the Road

Let's face it. Lahoris are people with big heart and bodies. They think less and eat more. That's why, they are so happy. I am envious of their happy moods.

When I first came to Lahore, I was worried that it would be a crowded place to live in. But I was wrong. It's not crowded. Thanks to Allah. People don't go out much. Women stay home and look after their children. Men toil hard. It reminds me of Prime Minister Imran Khan's dream of Riyasat e Medina.

My first encounter with a Lahori was with my cab driver, who picked me from airport. When he saw me in burqa, he said, "baaji you are a true Muslim. Women here are losing modesty."

I was a bit surprised. Really? Why are they losing modesty?

"It's the western culture. Everyone wants to be like them. Naked," he said.

"But I have lived in West. And I like Pakistani culture," I said.

To which he laughed and said, "women like you are rare, like gold."

I thanked him for the compliment. I knew that I have arrived in a Pak land. Maybe it is getting corrupt too, but it is still most beautiful.
